| When
you're researching doctors, you'll notice that some
doctors are M.D.s and some are D.O.s. All of those
initials can be very confusing. Here's some information
that will help clear things up.
M.D. is a Doctor of Medicine, an allopathic physician
trained to treat disease and injury with active
interventions. D.O. is a Doctor of Osteopathic
Medicine, a physician trained to use their hands
to diagnose injury and illness and promote the
body's natural tendency toward good health. They
do this in addition to using medication and surgery.
Both M.D.s and D.O.s are complete physicians
who complete four years of basic medical school,
then continue into a residency or training program.
Both can prescribe medication and perform surgeries.
Both must pass comparable national and state licensing
examinations.
