Community Health Fair & Anniversary Celebration This Saturday
1/16/2013
As Parkview Regional Hospital turns 50, the public is invited to a free community health fair to be held at the Parkview Clinic Building in Mexia on January 19 from 9 am – noon. The event kicks off a year of planned health and wellness events as Parkview is celebrating fifty years of service to the community in 2013.
“General Mexia Memorial Hospital, now known as Parkview, accepted its first patients on January 16, 1963,” explained Kevin Zachary, CEO. “We want to celebrate this milestone with a gift of good health to those who have supported us through the years.”
The day will start off with a brief celebration ceremony beginning at 9 am, and will proceed with an opportunity to meet the newest physicians, as well as current providers, and a health fair with over 30 area health providers and organizations. There will also be a display of memorabilia from the past fifty years.
“We’re hoping that as folks get out and enjoy other area events and the expected nice weather on Saturday that they’ll stop in and take advantage of the health and wellness opportunities at the health fair,” Zachary summed up.
An array of free and low-cost screenings will be available, including free blood glucose, blood pressure and blood oxygen screenings. Attendees can also get hemogram, complete metabolic profile, lipid profile, PSA, TSH and A1C testing done at $5 per test. No fasting is required for the blood draws.
Additionally, there will be stroke assessments, education on learning 10-minute CPR, smoking cessation and diabetes information, education on child and teen safety, mature driving, and much more.
Being introduced to the community for the first time will be two new Parkview Clinic physicians, Irene Ngantcha, M.D., an internal medicine physician; and LaShaundra Thedford-Smith, M.D., an internal medicine and pediatric physician. Carter BloodCare will also be on-hand for a blood drive, celebrating National Blood Donor Month.
